Description
Lívia Bende’s name is well-known among researchers of the Migration Period, in Hungary as well as abroad. This study is the PhD dissertation of Bende who tragically passed away at a young age. She collected all available data on the funerary customs of people who lived in the area surrounded by the Körös, Tisza and Maros rivers in the second half of the Avar period. This is the first attempt to provide a comprehensive analysis of this region in this regard. As a result, she succeeded in finding analogies with late Avar communities on the other side of the Tisza river, as well as i identifying surviving populations and define their settlement area. This volume makes a great amount of so far unpublished data available (3277 graves from 53 cemeteries), and introduces new factors in their analysis.
